Tour overview
This one day tour to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary gives you the opportunity to trek one of the elusive African Big Five animals in Uganda. Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch located in Nakasongola district is the proud home of the only wild rhinos in Uganda. The Rhino re-introduction project was a project of Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority. The sanctuary is conveniently located 176km (100 miles) north of Kampala on the Gulu highway towards Murchison National Park.
Ziwa is the only place where you will be able to see rhinos in the wild. Presently the sanctuary is home to thirty two (32) southern white rhinos and it has become increasingly popular with tourists; for Rhino Trekking, Shoebill Trek and Canoe Ride, Bird Watching, Night Walk, Nature Walk and Relaxation.

6am: Leave Kampala
Today after your early breakfast, your guide will pick you up from you hotel in Entebbe or Kampala and transfer you to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary located on 176 km (100 miles) on Kampala – Gulu Highway in Nakasongola. You will drive through the countryside across small villages and towns, open plains of scanty savannah vegetation become more visible as you get towards the rhino sanctuary.
11 Am - 3Pm: Rhino Trek, Lunch & Departure
Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will be briefed by your ranger guide about the history of Ziwa Rhino sanctuary and all you need to know about your walking safari. You will then start your 2-3 hours trek into the wild sanctuary where you will have a chance to view rhinos at a close but safe distance. Look out for other wild and bird life. The trek time depends on where the rhinos are.
After the rhino trek, you will return to the canteen, have your warm lunch and drinks, relax a bit and after, you will be transferred back to Kampala or Entebbe reaching in the evening.
